Here are the latests results! The original challenge is listed first, and followed by an excellent solution by a Zeno's regular, Troy Williamson!! Enjoy...

A Zeno's Dating Dilemma

It seems that Charles and Maggie have encountered some young adults at the coffeehouse who have posed a problem for Zeno's patrons. The deductive problem is listed below, and the clues are given for the solution. Read over the situation, and see if you can logically deduce the answer. Charles thinks you can't figure it out, since he has come up empty!!

This weekend four couples are going out. Each young man  (Grover, Keith, Joe, and Mac) is taking out a young woman  (Fay, Jane, Jill, Kim). Each couple will do a different thing (Billiards, Dancing, Dinner, or a Movie). Each person is the same age as their date and each couple has a different age (19 through 22). Find out who is doing what with who and how old they are.

Fay is not 20

The couple going dancing s 22

Mac and Kim arn't going out but both of them are over 20

Grover is playing Billiards

Both Jane and her date, and Keith and his date(who is not Jane), wanted to go dancing but the cluns won't let you in if you are under 21

Mac is going to the movies but not with Fay

Troy's Solution:

comments: Not a tough one, Charlie.  Clue #3 tells us that Mac and Kim
are both over 20, and clue #2 tells us that the couple that
went dancing was 22; thus, either Mac or Kim went dancing.
Clue #6 tells us that Mac went to the movies, so Kim must be
the 22-year-old who went dancing.  That makes Mac 21, by the
way (since he is over 20 and is not dating Kim).
Clue #6 also told us that Mac's date was not Fay, so she
cannot be 22 (Kim's age) or 21 (Mac's age); she must be either
19 or 20.  Clue #1 tells us that she is not 20.  So Fay is 19.
Clue #5 tells us that Jane and Keith are both less than
21.  Since Fay is 19, this must mean that Jane is 20; Keith,
who is not Jane's date, must be Fay's 19-year-old date.
     We now have the following information:  Jane is 20;
Keith and Fay are both 19; Kim is 22 and went dancing; Mac
and his date (who must be Jill) are 21 and went to a movie.
So where does Grover fit it?  Clue #4 tells us that he played
billiards.  Since the two females who are not yet paired with
a date are Kim and Jane, it must have been one of those two.
But Kim went dancing.  So Grover must be 20, and he went to
play billiards with Jane.
We have now exhausted the information given us in the
six clues.  All we need to do is to fill in the missing pieces
of information.  Joe is the remaining male, so he must have
been Kim's date.  And the activity which is not yet accounted
for is dinner; that must be what Keith and Fay did.
So Joe and Kim (both 22) went dancing; Mac and Jill (both
21) went to the movies; Grover and Jane (both 20) played
billiards; and Keith and Fay (both 19) went to dinner.

comments: If you make two tables: man x date, age, activity and
woman x date, age, activity, fill in the gaps with the direct information (Mac - movies, Grover - billards, for instance), and fill in the remaining gaps with the remaining information (Fay - 19, 21, 22, for instance).
Then, you make some logic assumptions, and reach the following results:
Grover and Fay, 19, Billiards
Joe and Jane, 20, Dinner
Mac and Jill, 21, Movies
Keith and Kim, 22, dancing

comments: Assuming premise 4 allows us to infer that both Jane and Keith are under 21 (which it does not, of course, logically imply) then the results are as follows:

Keith and Fay are 19 and go to dinner
Grover and Jane are 20 and play billiards
Mac and Jill are 21 and go to a movie
Joe and Kim are 22 and go dancing

comments: Mac/Jill 22 Movies
Kim/Joe 21 Dancing
Jane/Grover 20 Billards
Kieth/Fay 19 Dinner

comments: Ok here goes:
Keith and Faye are 19 and are going to Dinner.
Jane and Grover are 20 and go play billiards.
Mac and Jill are both 21 and go to see a movie.
Kim and Joe are 22 and go dancing.
